logoThroughout January and February 2014, the mentors at S.P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJMR) in India completed the Transformation Phase of the Abhyudaya mentorship program. The Abhyudaya program, which is funded by the GMAC MET Fund, is a year-long program where first-year MBA students mentor underprivileged children. The program is meant to teach MBA students about leadership development where leaders understand the macro perspective in which the society at large functions. Abhyudaya prepares the MBA students for senior managerial roles by developing the deeper understanding of different sections of society.

Over the course of the program, student mentors collectively provided 3,500 hours of mentoring after which their observations and reflections were recorded in an e-diary. A series of activities were planned by SPJMR to increase the mentor-mentee bond. Mentors and mentees visited the zoo and a local museum and participated in SPRINT, SPJMR’s annual sports event held in January. At the SPRINT event, mentors prepared their mentees for the events and came to cheer them on in a series of races.
